What to Expect at Your Child’s Eye Examination

Children’s Eye Examination – from $80
Every child begins with a comprehensive eye examination to assess their vision and overall eye health.

This includes:

  • Prescription check

  • Eye surface assessment

  • Examination of the back of the eye (inc. photo)

  • Binocular vision (eye coordination) assessment

If myopia (short-sightedness) is detected or suspected
We may recommend additional testing to better understand your child’s eye growth and risk of progression.

This may include:

  • Axial length measurement (eye growth tracking)

  • Corneal topography (detailed eye shape mapping)

An additional $69 applies for these advanced tests, bringing the total cost to $149.

Why this matters
Axial length measurement is considered the gold standard in myopia management. It allows us to accurately monitor eye growth and guide the most effective treatment if needed.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT CONTACT LENSES

Myopia or nearsightedness is rising, especially among children due to increased screen time and near-study activities.

Contact lenses have emerged as an effective tool for myopia management; unlike traditional glasses, specialized contact lenses can both correct vision and slow myopia progression. These lenses, including orthokeratology (Ortho-k) lenses and specially designed soft lenses, help reduce eye elongation by altering how light focuses on the retina.

There are many benefits to children wearing contact lenses. Two of the main ones are:

1. Wearing contact lenses improves children’s self-confidence and sense of self-appearance in school and playing sports.

2. Children aged 8–12 years appear to be safer contact lens wearers than teens and adults, with a lower risk of eye infection (Bullimore, 2017).
