GINA PARTRIDGE

Optometry Director
BSc, BOptom (Hons)

Gina graduated from the University of Auckland with Honours in 2014, and also has a Bachelor of Science in Human Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Otago. In her studies she had particular interest in dry eye, completing her Honours research project in inflammatory dry eye and ocular surface disease under the supervision of Professor Jennifer Craig, a world-renowned dry eye specialist.

She is highly experienced in specialty contact lenses, keratoconus lens fitting, rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses, and orthokeratology (OrthoK). She completed her Certificate in Advanced Contact Lenses from the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne in 2017.

Gina’s personal experience growing up with progressive myopia as a child and wearing contact lenses from a young age has helped her understand what it means to live with this eye condition and motivating her to do her very best for children with myopia. She is incredibly passionate about preventing and managing childhood myopia progression, helping to avoid the vision-threatening eye diseases associated with high myopia, now that effective and safe treatment options are available. She gains huge satisfaction from prescribing tailored treatments for her patients – whether they be spectacles, contact lenses, eye drops, or vision training – and making a meaningful difference to their lives.

Gina is currently in the process of gaining her International Academy Certification in Myopia Management (IACMM), with the aim of pursuing the prestigious Fellowship of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (FIAOMC) in the future. She is a member of the NZ Association of Optometry (NZAO), the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania (OSO), and the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of NZ (CCLS).

Charisse completed the Bachelor of Optometry degree with honours at the University of Auckland with therapeutic endorsement in 2019. She expanded her career into eye research and is currently in her final year of PhD in Ophthalmology. Her research involves investigating the inflammatory pathway leading to diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of vision loss in the working-age population worldwide.

Being short-sightedness herself, Charisse is passionate in eyecare for children and myopia management. She is up-to-date with the latest myopia research to provide the most effective and safe myopia treatments for her patients.

She enjoys conversing with her patients and their family to see how the treatment is working at home and gives additional advice and reminders to ensure any concerns are well taken care of.

Charisse is fluent in both English and Mandarin. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys going to classical concerts with family and lunch with friends, as well as keeping touch with her optometry colleagues in different parts of the world.
